Limiters are time savers, sometimes called search options. There are several kinds of limiters including: search, field and results limiters.
SEARCH LIMITERS
Search limiters are usually available on the Advanced Search page with some repeated on the results page. Most databases offer similar limiter options in Advanced Search.
FIELD LIMITERS
Field limiters are available on the Advanced Search page to the right of the search box. They allow you to:
- target literature reviews
- find specific author, publication, date
- limit by author-written abstract;
- field limiters may reflect the database specialty (e.g. health, business, technology, arts).

RESULTS LIMITERS
Results Limiters allow you to manage and narrow retrieved content in a few quick and easy steps:
- found on the results page on the left or the right and sometimes above the results
- narrow by date on the results page to quickly tame your results
- check the suggested subjects on the results page to get ideas you had not thought of before
- limit by a specific publication, listed for you based on what content has appeared in the results
